Time flies when you are focused!

It has been 10 years since Marafiki Community International was registered as a nonprofit organisation with the NGO coordination board in Kenya.

Marafiki was born at a time when I really didn’t want to set up an organisation. However one volunteer believed in me and my vision, and 10 years later Marafiki is bigger and better than I ever imagined then.

The work of sustainable development in a country like Kenya – my country that I love - is amazing and tricky and it is ever changing. What I have learned in the last years has inspired me to change how we run projects and how we volunteer at all the different placements around Kenya.

The highlights for Marafiki in the last 10 years are the building of Southern Cross Academy, the building of Ripoi Primary school and the successful water project at Ololaimutia. Every week for the rest of the month, I will share the history behind each project and where we are at. For all the volunteers that visited these places years ago, you guys will find things really changed!

In the next 10 years we hope to continue to define what real sustainable development means and to set up more projects of our own that will bring dignity to our communities.

To all the staff and volunteers in the last 10 years, Thank you, you have been a part of something that has grown into a dream I never could imagine.

Let’s keep changing things a day at a time.
