The Marafiki Community Center at Maasai Mara needs your support

For us, this year, has been both – because when some questions are answered, other questions come up. We evolve, we grow, we learn and then we do it all over again.
For years, our eyes bled as we watched the area of Ololaimutua, in Maasai Mara, fill up with plastic bottles. With no collection system and no recycling center nearby, the task felt impossible.
At the same time, we started to notice a trend in the area of idleness and hopelessness amongst the youth. After completing basic education, we can see them coming back to the village and have no other hobbies, job or role past a traditional job or taking tourists for village visits.
The Marafiki Community center will tackle both of these issues – we will build the community center with Eco bricks – sand filled plastic bottles collected in the area and filled with sand and we will set it up in order to continue to offer a range of classes and a safe space where youths and the community can rest and reenergize.
We want to support these communities to live life in their own terms. To continue to live in their village, have children and build families, raise cattle, as well as benefiting from a global online world where further education is accessible to all.
We also have a heart for the women who didn’t get a chance to go to school and who have shown us their commitment to their environment. They deserve to have a place to work on their crafts, to learn how to speak Kiswahili and English or use a computer.
